Ghana and St. Kitts and Nevis Agree on Visa-Free Travel for Citizens
Ghana and St. Kitts and Nevis have signed a visa exemption agreement, allowing citizens of both countries to travel freely and strengthening bilateral ties. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed at Ghana’s seat of government on March 4.
St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister, Dr. Terrance Michael Drew, is on a three-day visit to Ghana to participate in the country’s 69th Independence celebrations. Upon arrival at the Jubilee House, he was welcomed with a ceremonial parade. Following greetings, he and President John Mahama held discussions focusing on cooperation in health, tourism, education, and cultural exchange.
President Mahama described the visit as a reinforcement of his South-South cooperation agenda. For Prime Minister Drew, the visit represents both a personal ancestral connection and admiration for Ghana’s leadership.
During the visit, the two leaders signed three MoUs establishing a political consultation mechanism, a bilateral labor agreement, and the visa exemption agreement extending travel privileges to ordinary passport holders previously limited to diplomatic and service passports. President Mahama hosted a luncheon in honor of Prime Minister Drew, emphasizing Ghana’s support for climate justice, equitable climate finance, and global financial reforms that consider the needs of developing nations.
Prime Minister Drew highlighted the shortage of healthcare professionals in St. Kitts and Nevis and praised Ghanaian nurses who recently joined their healthcare system, requesting more Ghanaian professionals to meet growing needs.
