Christian Council Urges NPP to Ensure Peaceful Presidential Primary
The Christian Council of Ghana calls on the NPP and security agencies to ensure a peaceful presidential primary, urging tolerance, interfaith harmony, and adherence to the peace pact.
The Christian Council of Ghana (CCG) has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to conduct its upcoming presidential primary in a peaceful manner. The elections are scheduled for Saturday, and the council emphasized the need for harmony among aspirants, delegates, and all political actors.
Speaking at an event commemorating the International Day of Peaceful Coexistence in Accra, CCG General Secretary Rev. Dr. Cyril Fayose urged the Ghana Police Service, Electoral Commission, and other security agencies to collaborate in maintaining order during the polls.
“Dear aspirants and delegates of the NPP, let us give peace a chance. It is possible to elect your flag bearer devoid of hate, acrimony, and violence,” Rev. Fayose stated.
He commended the NPP for instituting a peace pact among aspirants, calling on all parties to adhere to it for an incident-free electoral process. Rev. Fayose further urged Ghanaians to embrace tolerance, diversity, and interfaith harmony, noting that national development depends on sustained peace.
The event, themed “Leveraging Peaceful Coexistence for National Development”, featured contributions from religious leaders, including Reverend Victor Kpapko Addo (Reverend Azigiza Junior) and R. Y. Yusuf Quainoo, External Affairs Secretary of Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission Ghana.
Mr. Quainoo highlighted Ghana’s strong Christian-Muslim relations as a model for peaceful coexistence, sharing experiences of international travels where the cordial interfaith relationships among Ghanaians were admired. He urged media practitioners to promote peace and avoid fuelling conflict, emphasizing that national identity transcends religious affiliations.
Rev. Fayose concluded by stating that peace is not merely the absence of war but a holistic state that ensures dignity, socio-economic justice, and sustainable development, urging all Ghanaians to actively maintain harmony across religious and political divides.
