The Minority Caucus in Parliament says the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) chances of reclaiming power depend on meaningful unity rather than political slogans, stressing that this lesson became clear after the party’s defeat in the 2024 general elections.

In a statement signed by Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin, the Caucus described the electoral loss as an “invaluable lesson,” noting that unity has always been the NPP’s strongest asset.

“The painful 2024 electoral defeat taught us an invaluable lesson: unity is not merely a political slogan but our fundamental source of strength. History demonstrates that when the NPP presents a united front, we are formidable. Our victories in 2000, 2004, 2016, and 2020 stand as a testament to this truth,” the statement said.

The Minority Caucus urged all party structures—particularly constituency executives, polling station organisers, and grassroots volunteers across the country from Tamale to Takoradi and Aflao to Axim—to rally behind the leadership of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.

Describing the grassroots as the backbone of the party’s electoral machinery, the Caucus encouraged supporters to focus on strengthening internal cohesion while holding the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) accountable for its stewardship of national affairs.

The Minority reaffirmed its full support for Dr. Bawumia, stating that both current and former NPP Members of Parliament bring significant experience to the party’s rebuilding process.

It also highlighted the party’s past parliamentary achievements—securing 169 seats in 2016 and 137 seats in 2020—and its implementation of major national policies, including the Free Senior High School programme, extensive infrastructure development, and key digital economy initiatives.

According to the Minority, this collective expertise places the NPP in a strong position to provide strategic direction as preparations intensify ahead of the 2028 elections.
