UENR students gain valuable Parliamentary exposure through educational visit to Parliament

The Student Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), led by its hardworking President, Mr. Abdulai Adjei Zakaria, and the distinguished Speaker of the SRC Parliament, Mr. Solomon William Asare, recently led a delegation of students on an educational visit to the Parliament of Ghana under the guidance and blessings of the Dean of Students, Professor Simon Abugre.

The visit provided students with a unique opportunity to observe parliamentary proceedings firsthand and deepen their understanding of democratic governance. During the session, students witnessed how parliamentary debates are conducted, how motions and arguments are presented on the floor of Parliament, how members are recognized by the Speaker, and how legislative business is conducted in accordance with parliamentary procedures and traditions.

The students were particularly excited by the experience and proudly represented UENR in their distinctive parliamentary attire, showcasing the university’s growing brand, visibility, and commitment to leadership development. Their discipline, enthusiasm, and professionalism drew admiration from many observers within the parliamentary chamber.

A significant highlight of the visit was the tremendous support provided by Hon. Millicent Amankwa Yeboah, Member of Parliament for Sunyani West, together with other distinguished parliamentarians, including Hon. Emelia Ankomah, Esq , Member of Parliament for Upper Denkyira East. Through their efforts, the students were given the opportunity to observe proceedings from the chamber and gain a rich appreciation of parliamentary democracy in action.

The delegation was formally acknowledged by the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Bernard Ahiafor, who presided over the sitting on Friday, 12th June 2026. The recognition of the UENR delegation before the House was a proud moment for the university community.

Following the parliamentary proceedings, Hon. Millicent Yeboah Amankwah warmly received the students in her office, where they engaged in fruitful discussions on the progress, achievements, and challenges of the university. Given that UENR is situated within the Sunyani West Constituency, the Member of Parliament reaffirmed her commitment to supporting the institution and its students.

The university community remains deeply appreciative of Hon. Millicent Amankwa Yeboah’s continuous support for UENR. Her dedication to student development has been evident on several occasions. Notably, in October 2025, when UENR students emerged as Overall National Debate Champions, she promptly organized a special reception in honour of the team. Working closely with the Vice-Chancellor and university management, she facilitated engagements that celebrated the students’ achievements and helped project their success on national platforms.

Her efforts included supporting media engagements and creating opportunities for the students to share their inspiring story with a wider audience. These initiatives were further strengthened through the support of distinguished leaders, including Hon. Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, Majority Chief Whip of Parliament, as well as other national and regional stakeholders who joined efforts to promote and celebrate the accomplishments of UENR students.

The Member of Parliament also facilitated engagements with key government officials and institutions, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to advancing educational excellence and creating opportunities for young people to thrive.

On behalf of the Management, staff, students, alumni, and the entire UENR community, we express our profound gratitude to Hon. Millicent Yeboah Amankwah for her consistent partnership and support. Her dedication to the advancement of higher education and youth development continues to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students and the broader Bono Region.

As UENR continues to nurture future leaders, collaborations such as these reinforce the university’s mission of producing graduates who are equipped to contribute meaningfully to national development and democratic governance.
