Setback not the end of the journey – Ken Agyapong rallies supporters after NPP primary loss

Former Assin Central Member of Parliament and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has encouraged his followers to stay strong and focused despite what he described as an unfavourable outcome in the party’s presidential primaries.

Speaking to supporters at his campaign office in Shiashie on Saturday, January 31, Mr. Agyapong admitted the disappointment of the results but insisted that the experience marked a chapter — not the conclusion — of his political ambitions within the party.

“The toughest moment has come, but this is not the end of the road,” he said. “Politics is a marathon. There are times you succeed and times you fall short, but what truly matters is your conduct afterward.”

He expressed deep appreciation to his campaign team and loyal supporters for their dedication and personal sacrifices throughout the race, assuring them their efforts would always be remembered.

Mr. Agyapong urged calm and maturity in the aftermath of the contest, cautioning against behaviour that could further strain party unity.

“I’m proud of the commitment you all showed. Let’s remain peaceful and disciplined. The NPP is greater than any individual, and it must always come first,” he noted.

He also stressed the importance of reconciliation and cooperation following the internal elections, calling on party members to put competition behind them and work collectively toward future electoral success.

“Though we contested strongly, we are still one family. Now is the time to close ranks and push the party forward,” he added.

His comments come as the NPP wraps up what many observers describe as one of its most competitive and closely watched presidential primaries in recent years.
