NPA Increases February Fuel Price Floors as OMCs Review Pump Rates

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has announced new minimum fuel prices for the first pricing window of February 2026, leading several oil marketing companies (OMCs) to adjust their pump rates.

The directive, which takes effect from February 1 to February 15, requires OMCs and LPG marketing companies to sell petroleum products only at or above the approved price floors to curb excessive price competition and maintain market stability.

New Minimum Prices

Under the revised thresholds, petrol now has a floor price of GH¢9.99 per litre, up from GH¢9.80 — an increase of about 1.9 percent.

Diesel has seen a sharper adjustment, rising from GH¢10.47 to GH¢10.95 per litre, representing roughly a 4.6 percent increase.

Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) has also been set at a minimum of GH¢9.05 per kilogram.

Market Reactions

Some major fuel retailers have already revised their prices to meet the new regulatory standards.

GOIL has implemented the petrol floor price of GH¢9.99 per litre at about 200 selected outlets nationwide, expanding from its previous 150 stations.

The company explained that the wider network aims to extend fuel affordability while maintaining service quality.

Under GOIL’s discounted scheme, diesel now sells at GH¢11.90 per litre, up from GH¢11.21 in late January, while the standard pump price has increased to GH¢12.55.

However, GOIL has maintained its regular petrol price at GH¢10.99 per litre and Super XP 95 at GH¢13.97.

Star Oil has also aligned its discounted petrol price to the GH¢9.99 floor, with standard petrol selling at around GH¢10.56 at selected outlets. Diesel is retailing at GH¢11.56, while RON 95 stands at GH¢12.54.

Compliance Pressure on OMCs

With the new floors in place, fuel companies previously selling below the approved levels will be required to raise their prices.

Zen Petroleum, which previously sold petrol at GH¢9.94 per litre, must now adjust to at least GH¢9.99.

JP Oil is also expected to increase its SupremA petrol and SupremO diesel prices from GH¢9.89 and GH¢10.89 to the new minimums of GH¢9.99 and GH¢10.95 respectively.

Industry analysts anticipate further price revisions across the market in the coming days as companies comply with the new NPA directive.
