NIA Staff Launch Indefinite Strike Today, Vowing “No Retreat, No Surrender”
Workers of the National Identification Authority under the Public Services Workers’ Union of the Trades Union Congress Ghana have confirmed that their indefinite strike will officially begin on Wednesday, May 13, 2026.
The workers are calling for the immediate approval and implementation of migration reports concerning their conditions of service.
The decision was announced in a joint statement signed by Assistant Divisional Secretary Godsway Ayivor and Divisional Chairman Bismark Francis Bangfudem Nyuzaghl.
According to the statement, all union members nationwide were instructed to stay away from work starting from midnight on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, until further notice.
The statement stressed that the strike action had fully taken effect and that no member of the NIA division should report to duty during the period of industrial action.
Union leaders also directed regional executives to create monitoring teams to ensure strict adherence to the strike across all NIA offices nationwide.
Additionally, members encountering challenges during the strike were encouraged to report them to divisional executives for assistance and resolution.
Reaffirming their determination, the union declared that members would remain united and committed to the strike until their demands are met.
The industrial action is expected to affect services at NIA offices across Ghana, particularly activities related to Ghana Card registration, issuance, and other identification services.
Meanwhile, management of the National Identification Authority has appealed to workers to allow the government an additional two weeks to finalise processes linked to the approval and implementation of the migration reports concerning staff welfare and working conditions.
