Minority Urges Greater Inclusion as Parliament Reconvenes

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on the Majority caucus to create more space for minority participation as Parliament resumes sittings.

Speaking during a leadership media briefing ahead of the House’s return on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Mr Afenyo-Markin stressed the importance of fairness and inclusivity in parliamentary proceedings, particularly in allowing minority voices to be heard through motions and advocacy.

He appealed to the Speaker and the Majority to be more receptive to minority initiatives, noting that several motions were declined during the previous session, which he said limited constructive debate.

“We believe the Majority must be more accommodating in this session. They should hear us out and allow the Minority to engage fully in advocacy. We also expect the Speaker to admit more of our motions,” he stated.

According to him, the frustrations experienced last year undermined the spirit of parliamentary democracy, which thrives on balanced participation from all political sides.

He expressed optimism that the new session would foster stronger engagement and cooperation on the floor of Parliament.
