Minority Seeks Parliamentary Briefing on President Mahama’s Use of Chartered Jet for Diplomatic Trips
Ghana’s Minority Caucus wants answers on President Mahama’s use of a chartered jet for recent foreign trips, calling for transparency on travel criteria, delegation makeup, and funding.
Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee and MP for Bosome Freho, Nana Asafo-Adjei Ayeh, says the Minority is demanding clarification over President John Dramani Mahama’s recent international travels using a chartered jet, raising issues of transparency, funding, and the criteria guiding such trips.
Speaking on Channel One, Asafo-Adjei Ayeh revealed that he and his colleague MP, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, have officially submitted a parliamentary question to the Ministers of Defence and Foreign Affairs.
According to the Bosome Freho legislator, the request seeks to understand the conditions under which the President embarks on diplomatic missions, how accompanying delegations are selected, and the source of funding for the trips.
He emphasised that the Minority’s final position will depend on the detailed explanations provided by the relevant ministers, stressing the need for accountability in the use of national resources for presidential travel.
“My colleague, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, and I have filed a question on the matter. We have compiled all officially communicated presidential travels to Parliament.
“We are now asking the Minister of Defence and the Minister of Foreign Affairs to brief us on the criteria, the circumstances, how the President is travelling, who makes up the contingent, and how these trips are financed.
“Once we receive their responses, we will state our position. For now, we are observing and keeping records,” he explained.
