Ghana Foreign Affairs Ministry Sets Two-Month Deadline for Incomplete Passport Applications
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced a new policy that will automatically cancel passport applications that remain incomplete for more than two months after their initial submission.
In a public notice issued on 15th May 2026, the Ministry explained that the decision is aimed at improving efficiency and ensuring timely processing of passport applications across the country.
According to the statement, applications considered incomplete include those requiring additional vetting, missing supporting documents, incomplete biometric capture, or pending biometric re-capture. Applicants affected by any of these issues have been urged to take immediate steps to complete their submissions to avoid cancellation.
The Ministry also clarified that fees already paid for such incomplete applications will not be refunded. Individuals whose applications are cancelled will be required to begin the passport application process again, including paying all applicable fees.
“The general public is encouraged to complete applications on time to avert cancellations,” the Ministry stated, while reaffirming its commitment to delivering quality and efficient service.
Applicants seeking further clarification have been advised to contact the Ministry’s 24-hour Call Centre on 0302 754 200.
The announcement serves as a reminder for passport applicants to regularly check the status of their applications and promptly respond to any requests for additional documentation or biometric updates.
