John Boadu Credits NDC for Currency Gains, Urges Balanced Approach
A leading figure of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has commended the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for stabilising Ghana’s currency, noting that the cedi has shown strength against major international currencies.
According to him, the current administration’s monetary and fiscal interventions have helped restore confidence in the local currency and reduced pressure on import costs and inflation. The relative stability of the cedi in recent months has been viewed by some analysts as a sign of improved macroeconomic management and stronger foreign exchange controls.
However, Mr. Boadu cautioned that the gains have not come without consequences. He pointed out that policies aimed at defending the currency can place pressure on businesses, restrict liquidity, and slow economic expansion if not carefully balanced.
He further stressed that while currency stability is essential for economic planning and investor confidence, government must ensure that measures adopted do not stifle growth, discourage exports, or burden local industries.
His remarks reflect a broader national conversation on the balance between stabilising the cedi and sustaining economic growth, as policymakers continue efforts to strengthen Ghana’s financial outlook while safeguarding livelihoods and enterprise development.
