“I know his mind, character and love for Ghana”- Akufo-Addo backs Bawumia after NPP victory
Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has endorsed Dr Mahamudu Bawumia following his election as NPP flagbearer, praising his character, loyalty, and commitment to Ghana ahead of the next general election.
Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has publicly expressed strong support for the New Patriotic Party’s newly elected flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as a devoted party member with a deep sense of patriotism and the drive required to lead the NPP back to power.
The endorsement was shared in a post on Wednesday, following a courtesy visit by Dr Bawumia and his wife, Samira Bawumia, to the former President after his victory in the party’s presidential primaries held on January 31.
Reflecting on their long-standing political association, Nana Akufo-Addo recalled selecting Dr Bawumia as his running mate nearly two decades ago, a partnership that saw them contest four elections together.
According to the former President, that period allowed him to closely observe Dr Bawumia’s values, work ethic, and commitment to both party and country.
“I know his mindset, his character, his love for Ghana, and his willingness to work hard. He has remained loyal to the party and to the nation,” Nana Akufo-Addo stated.
He further expressed confidence that with strong grassroots backing and sustained support from party financiers, Dr Bawumia is well-positioned to return the NPP to electoral victory.
“With the full backing of our grassroots and the continued support of our benefactors, I am confident he will lead us back to victory,” he added.
Dr Bawumia secured a decisive win in the NPP primaries on January 31, earning the mandate to lead the party into the next general election as it seeks to reclaim power following its loss in the 2024 polls.
