Gov't gives approval to dualize two major roads in Sunyani - MCE for Sunyani reveals

The Sunyani East Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Vincent Antwi Agyei, has announced that the Assembly has secured central government financial approval to dualize two major roads: the Sunyani Senior High School (SUSEC) to Abesim stretch and the Adomako Junction to Watchman route.

In a media briefing held in Sunyani on Thursday, the MCE highlighted these projects as essential infrastructure upgrades designed to significantly reduce heavy traffic congestion, enhance smooth vehicular movement in both directions, and improve overall pedestrian safety along these busy corridors.

Both roads measures approximately four kilometers and will be expanded into a modern dual carriageway. The contracts have been awarded to Alexiboam Construction Company Limited, with completion expected within one year.

Hon. Antwi Agyei emphasized that these dualization efforts are aimed at benefiting the entire community, including future generations, by fostering safer, more efficient transportation and supporting economic growth in the municipality.

He appealed to traders, shop owners, and individuals with temporary structures such as containers and wooden kiosks along the affected road reserves to cooperate fully by voluntarily removing or relocating them before the February 28, 2026, deadline. This will enable the contractor to commence work without delays.

The MCE clarified that the roadside areas in question are designated green belts and road reservations, protected as government land for future public infrastructure developments. He warned that any stubborn or non-compliant occupants who fail to comply would be forcefully evicted by the relevant authorities.

No compensation will be provided for structures occupying these reserved zones, as they are situated on government-designated land.

This initiative aligns with broader efforts to modernize road networks in the Bono Region, addressing urban growth challenges and promoting safer, more accessible travel in Sunyani and surrounding areas.
