Freddie Blay Reportedly Arrested After Outstanding Bench Warrant
Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Mr. Freddie Blay, has reportedly been arrested by the Ghana Police Service following the execution of a bench warrant issued by the Akropong Circuit Court over an alleged property destruction case.
According to a report by The1957News on Monday, March 16, 2026, the matter traces back to a complaint filed on February 1, 2025, by a landowner at Kitase in the Akuapem area. The complainant reportedly visited his property on January 31, 2025, and discovered that structures under construction had been demolished.
Police investigators who later visited the site arrested five individuals allegedly clearing the land with a backhoe. During interrogation, one of the suspects is reported to have mentioned Mr. Blay and another individual, Nana Osae Ntifo I also known as Dada as the persons who directed them to carry out the destruction. Nana Osae Ntifo I was subsequently arrested near a police station shortly afterwards.
Reports indicate that Mr. Blay was invited by police to assist with investigations but did not honour the invitation, despite indicating he would report. He, together with Nana Osae Ntifo I and other suspects, was expected to appear before the Akropong Circuit Court on April 24, 2025. However, after he failed to appear, the court issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
Investigators reportedly made several unsuccessful attempts to arrest him at his East Legon residence. Police are also said to have sent multiple messages via various channels in May 2025, but he allegedly did not respond.
While the case progressed, one of the co-accused petitioned the Office of the Attorney General’s Department, which reviewed the docket and advised that the police proceed with the charges as originally filed.
The accused persons were eventually charged and arraigned on February 5, 2026, but Mr. Blay again failed to appear in court. The bench warrant remained active until his reported arrest on Monday, March 16, 2026.
This development follows recent controversies, including a separate incident in which chiefs from the Ga State reportedly visited Mr. Blay’s residence to apologise over earlier false land-grabbing claims, and ongoing legal matters such as the Labadi Beach Hotel securing an injunction in a beach-front dispute involving a company linked to his son.
