Five NDC Aspirants to Be Vetted for Ayawaso East Parliamentary Slot Today

Five aspirants contesting the Ayawaso East parliamentary seat on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) are scheduled to undergo vetting on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.

Among the contenders are Hajia Amina Adam, widow of the late Member of Parliament Mahama Naser Toure, and Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, both of whom filed their nominations on Tuesday.

The other aspirants are the NDC Ayawaso East Constituency Chairman, Mohammed Ramme; Dr Yakubu Azindow; and Najib Mohammed Sani.

Speaking to Citi News on Tuesday, January 27, the NDC’s Deputy Director of Elections, Tanko Computer, said the vetting process would be followed by balloting, after which any grievances would be addressed to ensure a smooth and transparent primary.

“We will be vetting the five aspirants and then proceed with the balloting. After that, if there is any aggrieved candidate, the grievance committee will sit to hear the matter,” he said.

Mr Tanko added that the party was keen on completing the process promptly to allow for the printing of ballot papers ahead of the primaries.

“We want to conclude the vetting and balloting so we can proceed with the printing of ballot papers for the Electoral Commission to conduct the primary for us on February 7, 2026,” he stated, noting that the race features four men and one woman.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that the parliamentary by-election in the Ayawaso East Constituency will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
