CLOGSAG to Begin Nationwide Strike on March 9 Over Delayed Salary Implementation
The Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has announced a nationwide strike starting Monday, March 9, 2026, citing the government’s failure to fully implement a new salary structure and conditions of service previously agreed with the union.
The industrial action is expected to involve over 60,000 members across the country, potentially affecting operations in the Civil Service and Local Government Service.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on March 5, Executive Secretary of CLOGSAG, Mr Bampoe Addo, directed members to stay away from work until further notice.
“The National Executive Council of CLOGSAG gave notice on February 19, 2026, of its intention to proceed with industrial action. The issues remain unresolved, and all staff of the Civil Service and Local Government Service are asked to stay at home starting Monday, March 9, 2026, until further notice,” he said.
Mr. Bampoe Addo expressed frustration that the salary structure and service conditions agreed in 2023 have still not been fully implemented. Despite discussions with the government during the transition period and assurances from the current Labour Minister during parliamentary vetting, no meaningful progress has been made.
The union also criticized a previous partial implementation of the new salary structure, which benefited only some staff within the Finance Ministry while leaving the majority of civil servants without adjustments.
“In 2023, when the implementation was agreed, Ken Ofori-Atta applied it only to certain Finance Ministry staff, leaving the rest of civil servants in a difficult situation,” he stated.
CLOGSAG has made it clear that the strike will continue until the government fully implements the agreed salary structure and service conditions. Mr. Bampoe Addo emphasized, “The only way we will rescind this decision is if government implements the agreement.”
The strike is expected to significantly disrupt administrative services across government institutions if the dispute is not resolved soon.
