Baba Jamal Calls for Unity After Winning Ayawaso East NDC Primary

Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, has expressed gratitude to Allah, party supporters, and members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after securing victory in the party’s parliamentary primary for the Ayawaso East Constituency.

Speaking after the official announcement of results on Saturday, February 7, 2026, he said the win was made possible through divine intervention and the collective efforts of supporters, noting that the process had been demanding for him, his family, and his campaign team.

Baba Jamal thanked the party leadership, the presidency, members of the media, ministers, parliamentarians, and constituents who supported his bid throughout the contest.

He reserved special praise for his campaign team, describing their efforts as tireless despite limited time to engage delegates and communicate his message. He added that the campaign period was among the most challenging moments for both himself and his team.

The former Deputy Minister also congratulated his fellow aspirants, stressing that the primary should strengthen party unity rather than create divisions.

He called on all contestants and supporters to rally behind a united front as the NDC prepares for the upcoming March 3 by-election, urging members to focus on retaining the Ayawaso East seat.

According to him, while the primary was competitive, the priority now must be collaboration and mobilisation toward victory in the by-election.

Baba Jamal further assured party members that he remains accessible to all, including those who contested against him, and thanked his family for their patience and sacrifices during the campaign.

In the final results, Baba Jamal secured 431 votes to narrowly defeat Hajia Amina Adam, who polled 399 votes. Mohammed Ramme received 88 votes, Dr. Yakubu Azindow obtained 45 votes, while Mohammed Najib recorded one vote.
