Muntaka assures public of clean, transparent recruitment into security services

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has restated the government’s resolve to clean up the recruitment process within the security services by doing away with middlemen, bribery, and other unethical practices that previously damaged public trust.

He made this clarification while dismissing allegations that he had personally taken control of recruitment activities.

According to the Minister, the Ministry of the Interior only provides oversight to the agencies under its supervision to ensure the process runs smoothly and fairly without external interference.

“Our responsibility as a Ministry is to supervise the agencies we oversee and make sure recruitment is transparent, efficient, and free from manipulation,” he explained.

Muntaka was speaking to journalists at Christ the King in Accra during a visit to a Ghana Immigration Service screening centre as part of the ongoing nationwide recruitment exercise.

He noted that the centralized recruitment system being used by the security services is designed to minimize direct human contact, which often creates opportunities for corruption, adding that all the services have adopted the same system for that reason.

He questioned claims that the Ministry had taken over recruitment, pointing out that officers managing the screening centres are personnel from the security services themselves, not Ministry staff.

Muntaka emphasized that each security agency remains responsible for recruiting its own personnel, while the Ministry’s role is simply to monitor the process and ensure established rules are strictly followed.

To further promote transparency, he revealed that the Ministry has introduced a dedicated email address — [recruitment@mint.gov.gh](mailto:recruitment@mint.gov.gh) — for the public to report fraud, misconduct, or any irregularities related to recruitment. A special team has been assigned to investigate all complaints received.

The Minister also praised applicants for their orderly conduct and urged the public to ignore fraudsters who claim they can secure recruitment slots in exchange for money, describing such individuals as scammers.

He concluded by reaffirming the government’s commitment to professionalism, fairness, transparency, and respect for human dignity within all security institutions.
