Women’s Development Bank Nears Launch – Prof. Opoku-Agyemang

Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has disclosed that the government is in the final stages of preparing to launch the Women’s Development Bank, a flagship initiative aimed at empowering women economically.

She made the announcement during the 65th End-of-Year Gathering and General Meeting of the Greater Accra Markets Association (GAMA), where she indicated that a two-day strategic workshop has been organised to conclude key implementation plans for the project.

According to the Vice President, proper consultation and preparation are essential to ensure the long-term success of any major national policy. “Women are not lazy; what we require is the right support. Every significant policy must be carefully planned and discussed to succeed,” she stated.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang explained that the Women’s Development Bank will focus on delivering tailored financial assistance to women, especially those engaged in trading and small-scale businesses. The initiative is expected to improve access to credit and strengthen women’s participation in the economy.

She further urged market leaders and traders to collaborate with authorities to maintain cleanliness in market centres, emphasizing that improved sanitation plays a vital role in preventing flooding during the rainy season.
