We Can’t Live Like We’re Wealthy While Paying Huge Debts – Shamima Muslim Cautions NPP

Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Shamima Muslim has outlined the central priorities of the Mahama administration, emphasising that the government is committed to stability, discipline, and sustainable development.

She stressed that the administration is intentionally managing national resources to rebuild the economy and avoid wasteful spending.

“We cannot behave like a wealthy nation when we are still settling debts,” she said. “We must consolidate our progress and channel funds into critical sectors.”

According to her, government spending is being directed towards productive areas that will generate growth and ease economic hardship.

“We are investing in sectors that boost productivity—health, education, agriculture, and social protection,” she explained.

Touching on healthcare, Shamima noted that President Mahama has instructed that all hospital projects at advanced stages be completed to create jobs for health workers and improve access to medical services.

She also highlighted progress on the 24-hour economy, describing it as a well-structured national initiative.

“The 24-hour economy has transitioned from a secretariat to a full authority backed by law,” she said. “We have a functioning website, policy briefs, and increasing private sector interest.”

Shamima added that the government’s reform agenda is grounded in caution and responsibility.

“We are not reckless,” she stressed. “We start with pilots, build solid systems, and expand steadily.”

She reiterated that fiscal discipline remains a cornerstone of government policy.

“The stability we are experiencing is a result of discipline and prioritisation,” she noted. “We are managing the economy deliberately to safeguard Ghana’s future.”

Shamima concluded by calling on Ghanaians to remain patient, assuring them that their sacrifices are recognised.

“President Mahama consistently says we appreciate your sacrifices,” she said. “We are directing resources to the areas that matter most so Ghana can fully recover.”
