SSNIT Introduces Loyalty Programme to Give Pensioners Nationwide Discounts

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) is preparing to introduce a Loyalty Programme that will provide pensioners with discounts at selected hotels, retail outlets, and partner facilities across the country.

The initiative forms part of efforts to improve pensioners’ welfare by offering added benefits beyond their monthly pension payments.

The Director-General of SSNIT, Kwesi Afreh Biney, announced the plan during an engagement with pensioners in Tamale last Tuesday.

He explained that the programme will allow pensioners to access preferential rates simply by virtue of being SSNIT beneficiaries, describing it as a gesture of appreciation aimed at enhancing the overall value of the pension scheme.

Although the loyalty initiative falls outside SSNIT’s primary mandate, he noted that it is intended to improve the quality of life for pensioners. Discussions with stakeholders are already at an advanced stage to ensure smooth nationwide implementation.

Over the years, SSNIT pensioners have consistently received their monthly payments on schedule and have also benefited from healthcare support through the Pensioners Medical Scheme under the National Pensioners Association.

However, the Trust believes further measures are needed to strengthen pensioners’ welfare. In addition to the loyalty programme, plans are underway to introduce telemedicine services that will allow pensioners to consult healthcare professionals remotely through phone and digital platforms.

Pensioners at the meeting, represented by the Northern Regional leadership of the association, welcomed the initiatives, noting that they would help ease financial burdens, improve access to healthcare, and enhance their overall wellbeing.
