Parliament approves GH¢9.8bn GETFund allocation for education in 2026

Parliament has approved a GH¢9.8 billion allocation for the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) for 2026 to support programmes and infrastructure across the education sector.

Of the total amount, GH¢4.2 billion has been dedicated to financing the Free Senior High School policy, while GH¢1.5 billion has been earmarked for the tertiary education sub-sector.

Within the tertiary allocation, GH¢300 million will fund scholarships for continuing students and provide new sponsorship opportunities for those pursuing studies both locally and abroad under the GETFund scholarship scheme.

The 2026 funding formula also allocates GH¢230 million for completing ongoing basic school infrastructure projects and GH¢310 million for constructing new educational facilities.

The allocation is expected to strengthen access to education, improve learning infrastructure, and sustain government support for students at all levels.
