NPP Won’t Be Divided by Strong Rhetoric; Primaries Strengthening the Party — Freddie Blay

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, says the vigorous campaign activities leading up to the party’s January 31 presidential primary are helping to strengthen the NPP rather than divide it.

His remarks come amid concerns about rising tensions and sharp exchanges among some of the flagbearer hopefuls.

Speaking on Citi FM’s Eyewitness News on Tuesday, January 27, Blay described the competitive campaign atmosphere as healthy, noting that it is preparing the party for its broader showdown against the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2028 general election.

He acknowledged that a few individuals may have crossed the line in their comments, but said such moments often reveal personality traits that voters will ultimately judge.

“It has been very good and highly competitive. This is a rehearsal for the real contest — the battle with our main opponents, the NDC,” he said. “Hard words don’t break bones. They tell a story about both the speakers and the listeners. All of this contributes to revealing the strongest character among the aspirants. I see nothing wrong so far.”

Blay dismissed fears that the heated internal contest could lead to disunity after the primary, pointing to the recent peace pact signed by all aspirants as evidence of the party’s readiness to close ranks and move forward together.
