NPA raises fuel price floors; petrol at GH¢11.57 and diesel at GH¢14.35

The National Petroleum Authority has announced new price floors for petroleum products for the second pricing window of March 2026, effective March 16. The revision indicates a possible rise in fuel prices at filling stations across Ghana.

Under the new guidelines, the minimum ex-pump price for petrol has increased to GH¢11.57 per litre, up from GH¢10.46 recorded during the first pricing window of March (March 1–15).

Diesel has experienced a sharper increase, with its price floor rising to GH¢14.35 per litre from GH¢11.42 per litre. Liquefied petroleum gas, Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), has also gone up to GH¢10.67 per kilogramme from GH¢9.38.

The adjustments represent increases of GH¢1.11 for petrol, GH¢2.93 for diesel, and GH¢1.29 for LPG within the same month.

The price floors established by the NPA represent the minimum prices at which petroleum products can be sold under Ghana’s pricing framework. However, they do not represent the final pump prices consumers pay because several additional costs are not included in the floor calculation.

These extra costs may include premiums from international oil trading firms, operating margins for Bulk Import, Distribution and Export Companies, and the margins set by Oil Marketing Companies and fuel dealers.

Industry analysts say the adjustments reflect increasing pressure on global fuel prices, partly influenced by rising geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, which have pushed up international crude oil prices.
