NAIMOS Disrupts Galamsey Activities at Cape 3 Points in the Ahanta West Municipality

On Friday 30 January 2026, the NAIMOS task force deployed the Western Region continued its offensive against illegal mining at the Ahanta West Municipality, carrying out multiple raids on some galamsey enclaves in the area.

The raids commenced at about 0640 hrs, when the NAIMOS taskforce together with some Blue Water Guards and local intelligence from the communities, a raided illegal mining site within a rubber plantation at Ahanta Bisease.

The team observed two (2) excavators which were immobilized by the illegal miners. The team therefore further immobilized the machines by taking their fuel pumps after realizing illegal miners had already immobilized them by taking their monitors and control boards. The Taskforce also seized 1 x locally made weapon and burnt several structures of illegal miners at the site. As usual, the Task force focused on on clearing the illegal mining structures and equipment left at the forest area, and along the water ways as the illegal miners had absconded upon hearing of the arrival of the task force.

It was observed that the Illegal miners had been mining deep inside the rubber plantation and destroying the forest reserve. The task force subsequently conducted series of raids to disrupt the illegal mining activities and destroy all galamsey equipment found in the Cape three point forest reserve.

At about 0940 hrs, taskforce moved further and raided an illegal site at Abase Tumentu also within the cape three point forest general area. Here the team seized Two sany excavators. The seized excavators were moved to the NAIMOS equipment holding base at Takoradi.

It was observed generally that, most of the illegal mining sites with the Ahanta West municipality had been abandoned by the illegal miners due to the continuous presence of the NAIMOS taskforce in the region.

Nonetheless, NAIMOS will continue to maintain presence in the area to keep the galamseyers of the forest and along waterways where they have been cleared. The extended presence is also in line with NAIMOS strategic deployment plan which has as Ahanta west, specifically Cape Three Points being one of NAIMOS’ 21 permanent deployment locations.
