Mobile money transactions hit GH¢493bn in April
Mobile money transactions in Ghana reached GH¢493.2 billion in April 2026, involving 967 million transactions, according to the latest Summary of Economic and Financial Data for May 2026 released by the Bank of Ghana.
The April figure represents an increase from the GH¢484.6 billion recorded in March 2026, underscoring the sustained expansion of Ghana’s digital payments ecosystem.
The report further showed that registered mobile money accounts rose to 83 million in April 2026, up from 80.5 million in December 2025, while active accounts stood at 26 million. Registered agents increased to 992,000, with 534,000 of them being active.
Mobile money float balances also increased to GH¢36.7 billion in April from GH¢35.4 billion in March, reflecting heightened activity within the sector.
Meanwhile, mobile money interoperability transactions amounted to GH¢5.8 billion, representing 31.7 million transactions during the month.
Cheque clearing transactions recorded GH¢36.6 billion across 413,000 processed cheques, while Automated Clearing House Direct Credit transactions reached GH¢13.5 billion involving 816,000 transactions.
The data also highlighted growth in Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement Systems Instant Pay transactions, which rose to GH¢79 billion in April 2026 from GH¢71.5 billion in March, with volumes nearing 19.9 million.
