Mahama Government Increases Paramount Chiefs’ Allowances by 300%
The John Mahama-led government has announced a substantial increase in the monthly allowances of Ghana’s traditional leaders. Paramount Chiefs will now receive GH¢3,000, while Queen Mothers will receive GH¢2,400 — representing a 300% increment from their previous allowances.
Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, Minister for Local Government and Chieftaincy Religious Affairs, confirmed that these revised amounts have already been released for disbursement by the Regional Houses of Chiefs.
The move is widely seen as a recognition of the crucial role traditional leaders play in local governance and community development. The increase is expected to enhance the welfare of Chiefs and Queen Mothers, enabling them to better support their communities and carry out their duties effectively.
