Mahama Directs Security Agencies to Double Recruitment to 40,000

John Dramani Mahama has directed an increase in recruitment into the country’s security services following a high-level meeting with heads of the various security agencies.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency and signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President met with the Minister for the Interior, the Acting Minister for Defence and heads of the security agencies to review the ongoing recruitment process.

After receiving a briefing on the exercise, President Mahama directed that the number of men and women to be recruited into the security services should be increased from 20,000 to 40,000 over a four-year period.

The President also instructed the leadership of the security agencies to ensure transparency and fairness throughout the recruitment process.

Officials present at the meeting included the heads of key security institutions such as the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prisons Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service and the Narcotics Control Commission.

The directive forms part of government efforts to strengthen the country’s security architecture and ensure adequate personnel across the various security agencies.
