Korle Bu Teaching Hospital Interdicts 4 Staff Over Alleged Refusal of Emergency Care
Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has interdicted four staff members after allegations that emergency care was refused to an accident victim who later died.
Management of Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has interdicted two doctors and two nurses over allegations that they failed to provide emergency treatment to a road crash victim who later died after reportedly being turned away from multiple health facilities.
The decision, announced in a statement on Monday, February 23, 2026, follows widespread public outrage over reports that the critically injured patient was denied care. The affected staff have been relieved of their duties pending investigations.
Hospital authorities said a committee has been constituted to conduct a full inquiry into the incident and determine whether emergency care protocols were breached. All personnel connected to the case have been directed to cooperate fully to ensure transparency and fairness.
The deceased, 29-year-old Charles Amissah, an engineer with Promasidor Ghana Limited, suffered severe shoulder injuries in a hit-and-run accident at the Circle Overpass in Accra on February 6, 2026.
He was stabilised by emergency medical services personnel and prepared for transfer for further treatment. However, reports indicate he could not secure admission at the Ghana Police Hospital, Greater Accra Regional Hospital, and Korle Bu due to a lack of available beds.
While at Korle Bu, he reportedly went into cardiac arrest. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was administered, but attempts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he was later pronounced dead.
The hospital has reaffirmed its commitment to accountability and pledged to update the public once investigations are completed.
