‘I Was Sad, But I Trusted God’ - Nyindam Reflects on Court Battle

Member of Parliament for Kpandai, Matthew Nyindam, has opened up about the emotional strain of the legal battle over his parliamentary seat, saying he felt deeply hurt by how Parliament handled the matter but leaned on faith to endure the difficult period.

In an exclusive interview on JoyNews’ AM Show, Nyindam described his disappointment after his seat was declared vacant following a Tamale High Court ruling that nullified his election victory.

“I was sad because of the way Parliament treated me. I was sad. But I told myself there is a destiny in my life. If it is meant to happen, it will happen,” he said.

Despite the setback, Nyindam said he was determined to reclaim his mandate if given the opportunity. “If I had to come back to Parliament again, I was going to fight it with all my blood. But God knew that a day like this would come, and it has come,” he added.

The remarks follow the Supreme Court’s January 28, 2026, decision which overturned the earlier judgment by the Tamale High Court. The apex court’s ruling halted plans by the Electoral Commission to conduct a rerun in the Kpandai Constituency and cleared the way for Nyindam to resume his parliamentary duties.

The legal dispute began after the Tamale High Court, on November 24, 2025, nullified his election victory and ordered a fresh poll within 30 days. Parliament subsequently informed the Electoral Commission that the Kpandai seat was vacant.

Reflecting on the period of uncertainty, Nyindam said the experience was personally and politically challenging but strengthened his resolve. “It was not easy watching everything unfold. But I believed that if it were God’s will, I would return,” he said.
