Gov’t Rolls Out Greenville Programme to Deliver 20 Two-Bedroom Homes in Each District
The Minister of Works and Housing, Gilbert Kenneth Adjei, has announced the implementation of the Greenville District Housing Programme, a new government initiative aimed at improving access to affordable accommodation for low- and middle-income households nationwide.
The programme forms part of the government’s decentralisation and housing development strategy, focusing on providing safe, decent and affordable homes at the district level.
Addressing the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, Mr Adjei revealed that the initiative has begun with a pilot rollout in eight districts, each set to receive 20 two-bedroom homes.
“In this pilot stage, work has started in eight districts — South Dayi, Asuogyaman, Akyemansa, Ajumako Enyan Essiam, Atwima Kwanwoma, Dormaa West, Bole and Tamale — and construction is progressing at different levels,” he stated.
He noted that the project will use a hybrid building model that incorporates compressed earth bricks alongside sandcrete blocks to enhance sustainability, reduce costs and improve durability.
Mr Adjei added that the official launch of the Greenville District Housing Programme will take place in the coming weeks, describing it as a significant step toward decentralising housing development and promoting equity across the country.
“This initiative is a major boost to improving living conditions and fostering inclusiveness nationwide,” he said.
