Chairman Wontumi announces bid for NPP National Chairman position
Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has officially declared his intention to contest the party’s National Chairmanship, pledging unity, sacrifice, and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2028 elections.
Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, has formally declared his intention to contest for the position of National Chairman of the party.
In a statement released on Wednesday, February 4, Chairman Wontumi said his decision follows broad consultations with party elders and spiritual reflection, stressing that his ambition is driven by the need to reposition and unify the party rather than personal interest.
According to him, the NPP stands at a critical crossroads that demands bold, courageous, and selfless leadership capable of guiding the party into the future.
“The journey ahead will require vision, courage, and firm resolve,” he stated. “This is a time when leadership must be brave enough to take tough decisions and be ready to sacrifice everything, if necessary, for the survival and success of the party.”
His announcement paves the way for what is expected to be a keenly contested race for the party’s top administrative position ahead of the upcoming national executive elections.
Chairman Wontumi described his candidacy as a response to lessons learned from recent political challenges, arguing that the party now requires focused, principled, and committed leadership to rebuild confidence and energise its base.
A businessman and influential political figure in the party’s stronghold region, he portrayed himself as a true grassroots leader who understands the needs and aspirations of party members at all levels.
“I represent the grassroots,” he said, pledging to recognise and respect the contributions of every party member, from founding elders to the youth.
He concluded with a rallying call for unity and collective action, expressing confidence in the party’s readiness for the political battle ahead.
“We are prepared, we are organised, and we are ready for the task before us,” he said, adding that his goal is to position the NPP for a decisive victory in the 2028 general elections.
