Poor Communication on Corruption Prosecutions a Concern; Public Must Be Kept Informed – Ako Gunn

The Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Godwin Ako Gunn, has acknowledged that the government has not effectively communicated ongoing corruption-related prosecutions and asset recoveries to the Ghanaian public.

Speaking on Morning Starr with Naa Dedei Tettey on Starr FM, Ako Gunn admitted that although several cases linked to the previous administration are currently before the courts, many citizens may not be aware due to limited public communication.

According to him, it is important for the government to keep Ghanaians informed about progress made in recovering state assets and prosecuting corruption-related cases.

“I think it’s important for us to take the people along. These recoveries that we’ve been able to do on landed properties and all those things, we’ve not really communicated to our people,” he stated.

Ako Gunn noted that many citizens expect to see visible accountability through arrests, prosecutions and convictions.

“What our people want to see is prosecution, arrest, prosecution, and jailing people,” he added.

He cited examples of ongoing legal proceedings, including cases involving Gifty Oware-Mensah and Kwabena Adu-Boahene, indicating that both matters are currently before the courts.

Responding to criticism that the government has been slow in delivering justice, Ako Gunn stressed that authorities are focused on building strong and legally sound cases before proceeding.

“Once they are watertight… the wheels of justice grind slowly, but it grinds fine,” he said, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to due process while ensuring accountability.
