NPP Is Shivering Over 24-Hour Economy Policy – Isaac Adongo

Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of being unsettled by the government’s 24-Hour Economy policy, saying the opposition is “shivering” because the initiative is backed by clear structures and implementation plans.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament, Mr Adongo clarified that the 24-Hour Economy is not limited to agriculture or industrial production but is a broad economic framework requiring effective coordination among state institutions to succeed.

According to him, unlike previous policies introduced by the NPP, the 24-Hour Economy has been carefully designed with clear objectives, funding mechanisms, and implementation strategies.

“You are beginning to shiver because somehow you thought the 24-hour economy was going to be like ‘Ghana Beyond Aid,’ Free SHS, ‘One District, One Factory’, or digitalisation—initiatives that never had clear policies,” he stated.

Mr Adongo stressed that the policy is supported by institutional mechanisms to ensure it is properly executed and delivers tangible economic benefits.

He also criticised the NPP for what he described as a failure to study the memorandum accompanying the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, noting that the document clearly outlines the government’s intentions and operational roadmap.

The remarks come amid ongoing parliamentary debate following the passage of the 24-Hour Economy Authority Bill, which provides the legal framework for the rollout of the policy.
