NPP Grassroots Rally Behind Bawumia–NAPO Ticket, Emphasising Continuity for 2028

In the wake of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s decisive 57% primary win, NPP supporters at the grassroots are converging on a single message: continuity.

Across polling stations, constituency offices, party WhatsApp groups, and radio discussions, members are emphasising that the 2024 campaign validated not just Bawumia’s leadership, but the broader team that supported him.

Many argue that consistency, competence, and credibility were central to Bawumia’s appeal, making the retention of his running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), the logical choice for 2028.

NAPO is widely regarded by grassroots activists as a complement to Bawumia’s technocratic calm, bringing firmness, ideological clarity, and a robust defence of the NPP’s record. Party members believe that the 2024 pairing balanced geography, ideology, and temperament—North and South, policy expertise and grassroots mobilisation, restraint and assertiveness.

Supporters stress that changing the ticket could risk undermining the very strengths that secured Bawumia’s primary mandate. “It wasn’t just about personalities; it was about direction,” one organiser noted, reflecting the clarity and confidence volunteers felt during the campaign.

The push for retaining NAPO is framed as a strategic decision rather than sentimentality. Grassroots members argue that repeating the ticket would project stability, unity, and reinforce a leadership team confident enough to stand by its choices.

As the party prepares for the road to 2028, the message from the base is clear: the Bawumia–NAPO ticket is seen as unfinished business. For many NPP supporters, continuity is not merely about loyalty—it is about consolidating trust, sharpening the party’s identity, and maintaining the consistency that underpinned Bawumia’s resounding primary victory.

In the view of the grassroots, elections are won through credible continuity rather than constant reinvention, and standing again with NAPO is the surest way to reinforce that message.
