President Mahama Recalls Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria Over Allegations Linked to NDC Primaries

President John Dramani Mahama has directed the immediate recall of Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, following allegations of voter inducement during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary primaries in the Ayawaso East Constituency.

The decision, communicated in a statement from the Presidency on February 7, 2026, requires the diplomat to step aside from his duties while the matter is being reviewed.

According to the Presidency, although investigations are ongoing and no wrongdoing has been established, Baba Jamal is the only serving public official among those accused in connection with the primaries. The move, therefore, is intended to protect the integrity of public office and avoid any perception of impropriety.

The directive instructs the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take the necessary administrative and diplomatic steps to give immediate effect to the recall.

Government officials say the action reflects a broader commitment to accountability and discipline in public service, in line with the administration’s Reset agenda. It also underscores expectations that public office holders adhere to high ethical standards while investigations into such matters are underway.
