Mahama Advocates for Ethical Global Governance of AI and Digital Technologies
President Mahama urges ethical, inclusive global governance of AI and digital systems, stressing fair access and international collaboration.
President John Dramani Mahama has urged the international community to develop ethical, inclusive, and cooperative governance frameworks for artificial intelligence (AI) and emerging digital technologies, emphasizing that innovation is outpacing existing regulatory structures.
Speaking at the World Governments Summit in Dubai, President Mahama highlighted the transformative potential of AI, biotechnology, and digital systems, warning that rapid technological change could exacerbate global inequality if left unchecked.
He pointed to Ghana’s progress in digital transformation—citing achievements in mobile financial services, national identification systems, and e-governance initiatives—as examples of how developing nations can build inclusive digital economies.
“The digital future must not be the privilege of a few nations,” Mahama said, stressing that global cooperation is essential to ensure fair access, cybersecurity, technology transfer, and capacity-building for all countries.
He called on world leaders to treat technological innovation as a shared global resource, advocating policies that prioritize fairness, accountability, and inclusivity in the deployment of AI and digital systems.
President Mahama concluded that international collaboration is critical to ensuring that technological advances benefit societies worldwide, rather than deepening existing divides.
