Innovation Should Unite the World, Not Deepen Inequality – President Mahama Tells Global Leaders

President John Dramani Mahama has appealed to international leaders to ensure that technological innovation benefits all nations rather than creating fresh divisions between developed and developing countries.

Addressing participants at the World Governments Summit 2026 on Tuesday, February 3, under the theme “The Future of Global Alliances,” the President emphasised the importance of fair and inclusive access to modern technologies.

He warned that innovation must not become a tool that advantages only a few countries while leaving others behind.

“We must make certain that innovation serves as a global public good and not a new driver of inequality,” President Mahama stated.

He pointed to the rapid rise of artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and digital platforms as forces that will significantly reshape economies and societies, noting that regulatory and governance systems have struggled to keep up with these fast-moving changes.

The President highlighted Ghana’s strides in digital development, including expanded mobile money services, national identification initiatives, and reforms in electronic governance.

While acknowledging these gains, he stressed that technological progress should not be limited to select nations.

“The digital future cannot be the preserve of a handful of countries. Global partnerships must focus on responsible AI governance, stronger cybersecurity collaboration, technology sharing, and building digital skills across all societies,” he added.

President Mahama’s message reaffirmed Ghana’s dedication to inclusive innovation and called for stronger international cooperation to ensure technology drives collective global development rather than widening existing gaps.
