Several fishermen in Senya Breku have been left stranded at sea after suspected armed robbers allegedly fired gunshots and made away with their equipment.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, February 26, when the fishermen were returning from their night expedition. According to reports, the attackers, who were operating a black boat, intercepted the victims and seized outboard motors and generator sets, leaving them helpless on the water.

The Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West, Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui, confirmed the attack in an interview, stating that seven canoes were targeted, particularly those operating towards the Nyanyano side.

She indicated that while details about the assailants remain unclear, investigations are currently underway to establish their identities and motives.

The MP further disclosed that security forces have since been deployed to the area. Personnel from the Ghana Navy and the Marine Police Unit, under the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, have been tasked to assist in tracking down the perpetrators and restoring calm along the coastline.

Authorities have assured residents and fishing communities that efforts are ongoing to enhance security and prevent further incidents.
