Government to Reveal GH₵1 Fuel Levy Collections and Spending by Month-End – Energy Ministry

Ghana’s Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced that the government will publish details of revenue generated from the GH₵1 fuel levy, along with how the funds have been used, by the end of March.

Richmond Rockson, the Ministry’s Head of Communications and spokesperson, explained that the disclosure will comply with transparency provisions outlined in the Energy Sector Levy Act (ESLA).

Speaking on Citi Eyewitness News on Wednesday, March 18, he addressed concerns about the total amount collected since the levy was introduced, noting that the Ministry of Finance is responsible for providing the official figures.

He reiterated the government’s commitment to accountability, stating that the required data on collections and expenditure will be released before the end of the month as mandated by law.

Rockson assured the public that the government will not sidestep the issue, emphasizing that transparency in the energy sector is essential and non-negotiable.

His remarks follow increasing pressure from the Minority in Parliament, who are calling for the removal of the GH₵1 fuel levy on petroleum products. They argue that the levy has served its purpose and now places an unnecessary financial strain on consumers.
