The Board Chairman of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr. Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, has announced that the institution is preparing to distribute about 27,000 motorised spraying machines and 89,000 sets of personal protective equipment (PPE) to cocoa farmers across the country to boost farm productivity.

Addressing farmers from the Abuakwa North and Fanteakwa South districts in the Eastern Region on Thursday, March 12, 2026, Dr. Ofosu Ampofo reaffirmed COCOBOD’s commitment to supporting cocoa farmers despite the sector’s current challenges.

He stated that the Board will continue to provide essential farm inputs, including free fertiliser and insecticides, as part of ongoing interventions designed to strengthen cocoa production.

“As we speak, we have procured 27,000 spraying machines for farmers, and we have also secured 89,000 PPEs that will be distributed to them,” he announced.

Dr. Ofosu Ampofo further disclosed that COCOBOD is working with the government to restructure its scholarship scheme for cocoa farmers’ children. Under the new plan, support previously offered at the secondary level will shift to fully funded tertiary education, complementing the existing Free SHS programme.

“A committee is already working on the details, and the modalities will be announced soon,” he added.
