COCOBOD rejects GH¢12m Black Stars sponsorship claims
The Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) has refuted reports suggesting it provided a GH¢12 million sponsorship to the Ghana national football team.
In an official notice, the Board described the allegations including claims that funds intended for cocoa farmers were redirected to support the national team as false, misleading, and without factual basis.
COCOBOD stressed that it has never sponsored the team nor diverted resources earmarked for farmer payments.
“At no point has COCOBOD diverted funds meant for farmer payments to support the Black Stars,” the statement emphasised.
The Board reaffirmed its commitment to its core responsibilities, including ensuring timely payments for cocoa purchases, supplying farm inputs and extension services, and investing in the sustainability of the cocoa sector.
It further urged the public to disregard the circulating claims and rely on official COCOBOD communication channels for accurate information.
The clarification comes at a time of heightened public scrutiny over funding decisions, as COCOBOD seeks to reassure stakeholders especially cocoa farmers that their welfare remains its top priority.
