Cocoa Producer Price cut to GH¢41,392 per tonne from GH¢51,660
The government has announced a revised producer price for cocoa, setting it at GH¢41,392 per tonne (equivalent to GH¢2,587 per bag) for the remainder of the 2025/2026 crop season. The decision, approved by the Producer Price Review Committee (PPRC), takes effect immediately from Thursday, February 12, 2026.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson explained that the downward adjustment from the previous rate of GH¢51,660 per tonne reflects current conditions in the global cocoa market and aims to restore confidence across the sector.
The Minister highlighted that the revised price will:
- Inject immediate liquidity into the cocoa value chain, helping to expedite payments to farmers who have experienced delays.
- Ease financial pressures at the farm level.
- Support broader sector reforms aimed at the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s cocoa industry.
Dr. Forson emphasized that the measure is necessary to stabilise the sector, strengthen COCOBOD’s financial position, and secure better outcomes for cocoa farmers.
At the start of the 2025/2026 season, the producer price had been set at US$5,040 per tonne, equivalent to GH¢51,660 per tonne or GH¢3,228.75 per bag, representing a 62.58% increase in dollar terms. The current revision aligns domestic prices with international market realities to safeguard the industry.
