CAGD Assures Reinstatement of Salaries for 2,000 Public Workers After Audit Verification
The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department will restore suspended salaries of 2,000 public workers after audit verification to ensure payroll integrity.
The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has confirmed that salary payments for more than 2,000 public sector employees will be restored once they complete employment verification with the Ghana Audit Service.
The Department explained that the temporary suspension followed directives from the Auditor-General after a nationwide payroll headcount exercise aimed at strengthening accountability and compliance with Public Financial Management (PFM) laws.
Speaking to Citi News on Monday, February 2, 2026, the Controller and Accountant-General, Kwasi Agyei, said the decision was part of broader efforts to protect the integrity of the government payroll system.
According to him, the Auditor-General initially identified about 6,000 workers who failed to participate in the verification exercise and recommended their removal from the payroll.
However, further internal checks by the CAGD revealed that most of the cases had already been resolved, leaving approximately 2,000 employees affected by the suspension.
“As a result, we halted payments to the affected staff and informed their institutions to present them to the Ghana Audit Service for verification. Once the Auditor-General finalises the process and officially communicates with us, their salaries will be reinstated,” Mr Agyei explained.
He reiterated the Department’s commitment to transparency, fiscal discipline, and prompt salary administration in line with PFM regulations.
