Asiedu Nketia urges patience as government works to expand job opportunities

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has appealed to Ghanaians and party supporters to remain patient as the government works to improve the economy and create more employment opportunities.

His remarks follow concerns over the limited number of positions available in the country’s recent security services recruitment exercise. The Minister for the Interior, Mubarak Mohammed Muntaka, disclosed that nearly 500,000 people applied for the recruitment, with more than 105,000 applicants qualifying for the medical screening stage. However, only about 5,000 positions are available for final enlistment.

Speaking to supporters in Dodowa, Asiedu Nketia cautioned that rushing to address the situation could lead to ineffective solutions. He stressed that creating sustainable employment opportunities requires time and financial resources.

According to him, the government’s immediate priority is to stabilise and strengthen the economy under the leadership of John Dramani Mahama, noting that progress is already beginning to show.

He urged the public to remain calm and patient, adding that frustration will not resolve the problem and that the government remains committed to expanding opportunities for citizens.

Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has demanded that the Ministry of the Interior refund approximately GH¢113 million collected from applicants who failed to qualify during the recruitment process.
