African Unity Key to Driving Growth and Shared Prosperity – Opoku-Agyemang

Ghana’s Vice President, Prof Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has appealed to African leaders to strengthen continental unity as a pathway to achieving shared prosperity and long-term economic development.

Delivering remarks at the Africa Prosperity Dialogues on Wednesday, February 4, she emphasised the importance of deeper regional integration supported by clear policy direction, strong development finance institutions, and large-scale projects that match Africa’s collective ambitions.

She explained that a more unified Africa would allow entrepreneurs, manufacturers, and investors to see the continent as a single connected market rather than a collection of small, fragmented economies.

According to the Vice President, breaking down trade barriers and encouraging cross-border cooperation will significantly boost economic opportunities across the region.

Prof Opoku-Agyemang stressed that African governments and private-sector players must work together to advance initiatives that enhance collaboration and regional economic growth.

“We must keep integrating our borders. Africa must come together. This is not about losing sovereignty, but about organising our sovereignty in a way that serves shared prosperity and a common market,” she said.

Her comments reinforced calls for stronger continental cooperation to unlock Africa’s vast economic potential and accelerate sustainable development.
