Nii Lante advises NDC to let go of Kpandai case after Supreme Court ruling
Nii Lante Vanderpuye advises the NDC to drop plans to review the Supreme Court’s Kpandai ruling, calling further court action a waste of time and resources
National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to drop any intention of seeking a review of the Supreme Court’s decision on the Kpandai parliamentary election matter.
On Wednesday, January 28, the Supreme Court overturned an earlier ruling by the Tamale High Court that had nullified the election results in the Kpandai Constituency of the Northern Region. The decision also halted plans by the Electoral Commission to conduct a rerun of the poll.
In the wake of the judgment, Majority Chief Whip and South Dayi MP, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, revealed that the NDC was considering applying for a review once the certified ruling becomes available.
However, speaking on Channel One TV, Mr Vanderpuye warned that returning to court without solid legal grounds would only drain the party’s energy and resources. He described the idea of reopening the case as unnecessary and burdensome.
According to him, another court process would distract party leaders, lawyers, and Members of Parliament from their core duties and place avoidable stress on everyone involved.
“If the case goes back to court, all of us — the lawyers, the party members, and MPs — will be there again. Even the Minority will abandon parliamentary work to follow the matter. It will only bring stress and waste resources,” he said.
Mr Vanderpuye also proposed a political approach to resolving lingering tensions, suggesting that the President could consider offering a government appointment to the NDC’s Kpandai parliamentary candidate, Daniel Nsala Wakpal.
He explained that such a gesture could help bring the issue to a close and allow the party to focus on moving forward.
