CAGD Suspends Salaries of 2,563 Government Workers After Nationwide Headcount

The Controller and Accountant-General’s Department (CAGD) has suspended the salaries of 2,563 government workers who failed to take part in the 2025 nationwide headcount exercise.

In a statement issued on Friday, January 30, 2026, and signed by the Head of Public Relations, Cephas Neosoo, the Department confirmed that while salaries for January 2026 had been successfully processed for most public sector employees, payments for 2,563 staff were withheld based on a recommendation from the Auditor-General.

According to the statement, the affected workers did not present themselves for the mandatory headcount conducted across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), raising questions about their employment status.

The CAGD has therefore urged all affected employees to immediately contact the Ghana Audit Service to verify their status and complete the required clearance process for reinstatement of their salaries.

The Department reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and integrity in Ghana’s public payroll system, stressing that such exercises are crucial in eliminating ghost names and ensuring efficient use of public funds.
