‘Reset Must Begin With Us’ – Fifi Kwetey Urges NDC to End ‘Business as Usual’
NDC General Secretary Fifi Fiavi Kwetey says the party must reform internally and end “business as usual” if it hopes to lead Ghana’s national reset and restore public trust.
Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says the party’s call to reset Ghana will only be credible if it first abandons entrenched practices and reforms its own internal culture.
Speaking on PM Express on Joy News on Tuesday, he stressed that the NDC must lead by example and confront hypocrisy within its ranks, even if doing so carries personal political risks.
He argued that the party cannot credibly criticise opponents for actions it has previously engaged in, warning that such double standards undermine its message.
In an interview with host Evans Mensah, Kwetey said he is prepared to accept any consequences that come with advocating reforms and upholding the party’s stated values, even if it affects his own political ambitions.
He maintained that his message is grounded in the NDC’s long-standing principles, particularly the emphasis on putting national interest first an idea often reflected in the party’s anthem and internal messaging.
According to him, not all members may fully grasp these ideals, but that should not be a justification for ignoring them. Instead, he said, efforts must be made to reorient the party around its founding values.
Kwetey noted that the NDC’s promise to reset Ghana requires the party to first reform itself and move away from routine political behaviour.
He rejected the notion that the reset agenda is simply about contrasting the NDC with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), emphasizing that acknowledging the NPP’s shortcomings does not mean the NDC is flawless.
The General Secretary said strengthening internal systems and discipline is necessary for the party to produce leaders capable of delivering effective governance and meeting public expectations.
He added that merely criticising political opponents is insufficient, especially when citizens particularly young people expect higher standards from those seeking leadership.
Kwetey described his stance as driven not by personal ambition but by a desire for national transformation, urging party members to lay strong foundations and uphold principles that will strengthen both the NDC and the country as a whole.
