Kofi Ofosu Nkansah Charged with False Publication, To Appear in Court Thursday

Former Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Kofi Ofosu Nkansah, is expected to appear before court on Thursday, February 12, 2026, after being formally charged with publishing false news.

His lawyer, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, confirmed the development during an interview on Asempa FM, stating that the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) has completed preliminary procedures and intends to arraign his client before court.

According to counsel, the charge stems from allegations made by Mr Nkansah that an individual paid money to obtain a government-sponsored scholarship to study abroad.

“I have just left the BNI. They have formally informed me that he will be put before the court tomorrow, by God’s grace. For that reason, they are not granting him bail,” the lawyer disclosed.

Mr Nkansah’s arrest follows a directive from President John Dramani Mahama, who instructed the NIB to probe claims he made concerning alleged irregularities in the award of foreign scholarships. The allegations were raised during a discussion on Sompa 106.5 FM and subsequently gained widespread attention after the Twi-language interview circulated across various media platforms.

A statement dated February 3, 2026, and signed by the Secretary to the President, Dr Callistus Mahama, indicated that the matter had drawn significant public interest, necessitating a formal investigation.

As part of the inquiry, NIB officers reportedly searched Mr Nkansah’s residence on Tuesday before inviting him for further questioning. The Bureau has not yet released an official statement as investigations continue.
